Basic Information
The Village of
Alsip operates under the mayoral form of government. The Mayor
assisted by an Administrator manages the daily operations of the
Village. The legislative authority of the Village is comprised
of a six member (trustees) forming the municipal council. Each
elected official serves a four year term, the trustees four year
election terms are staggered (three one election and three the next
election).
In order to maintain established Village services,
and provide new ones, each trustee is assigned as a chairperson to oversee
one or more departments of Village government. This Village Board meets
twice monthly to ensure that such services as; Police, Fire, Emergency
Medical, Health, Street maintenance, Snow Removal, and Water and Sewer
Services are provided in a timely and efficient manner. The Village
currently employs approximately 150 personnel with increases depending on seasonal
needs. The Village operates on an annual budget of $23 million
dollars.
The Village
owns and operates its own water system supplied by Lake Michigan
water purchased through the City of Chicago.

Alsip is located at 41 40 14 North, 87 53 56 West (41.670433,

Demographics
Covering approximately 9 square miles, the Village of Alsip is
located at the Cicero Avenue/127th Street Exits of the Tri-State
Toll-way.
The community has a residential population of over 19,000.
Affordable housing for families of various income levels and space
needs is available on the form of single family homes, condominiums,
town-homes and rental units. Alsip is comprised of both new and
established housing in all categories. The population is relatively
young with a median age of 34.2 years. 57% of the working
population is employed in white collar positions. The other 43% is
engaged in work categorized as blue collar. 48.9% of Alsip families
have incomes between $35,000 and 75,000 annually.
Over 800 commercial, industrial, retail and corporate businesses
currently find Alsip a profitable place to do business. Those
companies create employment for over 20,000 workers. Alsip's
excellent location and plentiful supply of skilled and semi-skilled
labor continue to attract new business to the community.
Alsip combines established and growing business with a suburban
residential atmosphere to provide a strong community for businesses
and residents. The broad commercial and industrial tax base assures
quality municipal, educational and recreational services to all
property owners.
